The Land

As many of you know, Dave and I have been ready to build and move out of the dump we currently live in for a long time. After we finally got around to getting married, we decided it was time to seriously think about moving. We knew buying a home was going to be tough because we wanted very specific things in our house. We also wanted lots of space inside and outside. I'm not even sure that buying a house was ever a serious option. I think we both knew we would be unhappy with whatever we purchased or we would never find a house to purchase. Building was really our only option.

We looked around Lincoln for lots first. The small lot sizes and huge prices were hard to swallow. There was no way I was going to pay $50,000 for 1/3 of an acre! That's insane especially when you could drive outside of town a ways and pay $50,000 for 3 acres or more.

We expanded our search to the town surrounding Lincoln. Dave knew of a builder who had purchased some land near Bennet and was just starting to develop the area. We contacted him - all he had done was put together a plot map. No roads were cut; no lots were marked, but the area was beautiful. After looking at several other areas, we finally decided we had to have one of the lots in this development. Considering that the lots were barely on the market, we could pick any one. We closed on it last July and waited patiently for the corn that was planted to be harvested so we could think about building!
