Crazier Things Have Happened

The rumors are true. Dave and I have gone against everything we've ever said and we are having a baby. I know. It's crazy. We aren't right in the heads.

Spud, as we call the baby (none of this it stuff), is slated to arrive June 10, 2011.

It's ok if you need to re-read all of this so far. Maybe sit down first even. It's a lot to take in.

We figured it out around the beginning of October when I started to feel like crap every day, all day long. Let's just say I have no idea where October and November went. I was never nauseous (except when drinking apple juice) but I just had a constant stomach ache and was exhausted. Needless to say, Washington D.C. was a fun trip. It was there I discovered that eating helped ease the stomach ache so we were constantly on the search for food.

I started to feel better around the end of November but realized my brain was gone. I'm dazed pretty constantly. Had mom not gone shopping with me in Omaha on the day after Thanksgiving, I'd probably still be driving around that town trying to find the mall (and I'm usually right on with mall locations!). Now my days involve going to work (which is exhausting) and coming home to the couch! Patton is getting really good at sharing the couch with me!

The most common response we've received when we've told people is "Are you serious?". This is usually asked several times during which we nod our heads. We knew it would be a shock (hell, it's still a shock to us) and it's funny to hear (and see) people respond. Once we decided to tell our families at Christmas, we began planning how we were going to share. For my mom, dad, and brother, I decided to buy them calendars for Christmas and fill in the baby's due date. My mom had to be prompted to look through her calendar a couple of times (I shouldn't have given her a corgi calendar) but once she saw the calendar entry, everything clicked.

Dave tried to get some photos of her reaction. He was trying to be sneaky so they are a little blurry but you get the point.

Dave decided the best approach with his parents was just to tell them. We went to dinner so no pictures but they were surprised. Course, Dave had his mom convinced we were getting another puppy but once we had her straightened out, she was shocked!

At our Christmas celebration, my aunt Sue was kind enough to take pictures of other reactions for us.

I had to discuss my Grandma's social calendar with her to make sure she'd have plenty of time to quilt. She assured me that she'd have time :) She also told me she figured out I was pregnant when she walked in the door. I didn't realize I was showing that much!

I missed this reaction of my aunt Tammy, so I'm sure glad Sue caught it. It's priceless!

This was as my mom told my uncle Jim. He turned to me and asked "why?". Perfect question and I had no response :)

So, there you have it. The Pool's are having a baby. Still sounds weird to hear it. It should be an interesting ride.
