Introducing Gnome

Meet Gnome (pronounced no-me) the Gnome. He'll be seductively joining us on our house building adventure.

What A Week!

We had a pretty crazy but exciting week here. Tax season finally ended on Wednesday after three grueling days of last minute projects (goodbye 60+ hour weeks). That was quite the relief in itself, but to make the week even better, the concrete guys were busy at our place pouring basement walls! Yep, we have a basement. If it wasn't official before, it is now!

Dave and I drove out the lot on Friday afternoon and as we came around the corner to the development we saw this:

There's actually 4 concrete trucks there (one is hidden behind the others). We were ecstatic! So, of course we had to be those people who get out and gawk and take lots of pictures.

Yeah, I'm only posting two of the thousands of photos Dave took. Thank God for digital cameras.

The fact that we now have basement walls was quite the sight for us. We've owned this lot for so long and had this plan to build a house, but it was always just an empty lot and a plan. I think it hit both of us as we rounded that corner that this is really it. We're finally getting our house. Of couse the feelings went quickly from excitement to panic as I realized that I had a lot of decisions to be making SOON! But we'll deal with that. For the mean time we have walls!

The House...Well, Almost

Add a window, flip it so the garage is on the left, and you'll get a general idea of where this building is taking us.

Gotta Have a Builder

We've had several people ask us who our builder is. Unfortunately, there is not a short answer to that question. We've hired Bugbee Homes to deal with the initial stages of construction. Troy and his crew are going to take the home through drywall. They'll also deal with the lagoon and exterior of the house.

After they are done, we are taking over. Crazy? Yes, but we are hoping it will save us enough to fill the home with fun extras (can you say Great Dane?). Luckily we have a secret weapon. My dad has volunteered (my mom might have volunteered him, but it's all the same) to help us finish the home. With his knowledge and our desire to move, we should have this finished in no time! By the way, if you have any free weekends, we can always use the help - Dave is willing to supply pizza and beer to anyone who ventures our way.
