And yes, a hard hat is necessary when in our basement.

Weekend Update - Part 3

The end of last week got away from me. Work is picking up, house work is picking up...busy times. Anyway, here's part 3 of last week's weekend update. I'll work on this weekend shortly...






Yep, railings are up! We'll be working on the balusters shortly. Things are moving right along.

Weekend Update - Part 2

Our furniture arrived! Ok, it arrived 2 weekends ago, but whatever.

Our chairs are neatly piled in the office.


Our table is also in the office.

The couch and ottoman are hanging out in the bedroom with our new bed. Also joining the fun is our table leaf.

What? Your couch goes in the living room? You don't know what you are missing!

Weekend Update - Part 1

Whew! So much has been accomplished in the last week! We have two projects to finish and then it's move-in time. I sent November's rent check in today along with a notice that we would be out by the end of November. Pretty exciting!

Our countertops and almost all of our plumbing fixtures were installed last week.

We chose quartz countertop for the master bath and rectangle shaped sinks.

Toilets were also installed. This is a really big deal as we have been driving to the gas station in Bennet to use the restroom. Even though we don't have a door (we have a lovely tarp hanging in the doorway), having a working toilet sure beats driving to the stinky gas station.

Our foyer bath contains a granite top and a vessel sink which I'm not 100% sure about yet. It's growing on me, but it's an incredibly slow growth. I do love the faucet!

Our kitchen will have two faucets (one for filtered water) but we ran into a small snag with the installation of the second faucet. Nothing that can't be fixed though.

The countertops in the kitchen are Corian. They are whiter than what I had anticipated, but I think they look great with the dark wood.

Finally, we installed a pedestal sink in the bathroom by the garage.

Color

Someone once told me that painters are a dime a dozen. I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know that my mom does not fit that description. All this time that my dad has been installing hardwood, Dave has been tiling, and I have been finishing woodwork, she's been painting, painting, and painting. She has painted every wall in my house twice and some even three times. She's had some help along the way - Trent, Tucker, Megan, Jessy, Twila, Dave and myself (hope I didn't forget anyone) but for the most part, she's handled all of the painting. Dave and I are so lucky to have her help and are eternally grateful for all of the painting.

Now, let's tour her hard work.

My mom even tackled scaffolding to paint! Now that's a trooper. In between painting, she's also been bringing lunch on Saturdays. Amazing!

Just so you know, she's my mom and I'm keeping her.

Weekend Update

We accomplished a lot this past weekend! Move in is looking closer and closer every day.

We were greeted Saturday morning by snow and cold weather.



Luckily, our furnace runs great!


My dad continued to work on the stairs.



All of the stairs are covered in hardwood! The hall upstairs is next and then we'll tackle the railings.

Dave spent all weekend finishing the up the tile. All tile has been laid and grouted!

We moved the fridge out of the great room and put it in place.

Just so you know what I go through to take photos for this blog. I asked my mom and Dave to dangle their feet next to dad's so I could take a photo.

When I came around to get a photo from the front, I was greeted with a handful of wood shavings. My dad does not like his photo taken.

We are finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. The flooring on the catwalk and the railings have to be up. We also have to build a permanent landing and stairs from the garage to the house. The electrician and plumber (who will hopefully be out yet this week) have to finish up but then we can move in!

Weekend Update

Another weekend of hard work done. We're getting closer but it still seems like move-in will never happen. At this point, we think we only have 4 things left before we can get our occupancy permit. The railing for the stairs and catwalk have to be done which of course means the floors have to be done. We also have to build a proper set of stairs in the garage and Dave has to finish the tile floors.

Of course, these are only what we have to get done. The countertops need to be installed. Did I mention this is happening on Wednesday!? After that the electrician can finish. Once Dave has the tile floors done, the plumber can install the faucets and toilets. Lots left, but the end is in sight.

So, this past weekend, Dave finished the tile in the entryway/bathroom/laundry room. We are 3 tiles short so grout has to wait.

My dad put flooring on the back of the bar. We decided this would wear much better than painted drywall. I'm not interested in cleaning footprints and scuff marks off of paint.

My dad also continued to install the flooring. He's working on the stairs. It's quite the time consuming project and Dave and I are so thankful that he can do it!

(Dave's been wanting to dangle his feet from above for a while now. I told him he had better get

up there because the railing is going up soon and then he wouldn't be able to.)

Dave also started tiling our bathroom floor.

And we even took time to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The leaves are starting to turn and everything looks awesome outside.
